5 Fantastic Blues Tones
5 Fantastic Blues Tones
These 5 Fantastic blues tones were originally demo’d and created on my YouTube Channel in the video entitled “How to make 5 Fantastic Blues Tones with the Yamaha THR.” Since that time these tones have been further optimized with a more sensible EQ, compression, noise gate and the option to add modulation. This tone pack includes the following:
Blues #1 “The Classic” which is a low gain, straight ahead 1x12 blues tone with slap back delay and spring reverb. Think high treble Freddie King tones that really cut through the mix. Great for string bends, chords and even hot country licks.
Blues #2 “Botique Crunch w/Psychedelic Delays” with this blues tone, there’s a little more gain on tap, compression and noise gate for evenness and low noise, a 4x12 cabinet, tremolo, tape echo and spring reverb, think Dylan Carlson tones from Earth or even Trey Anastasio from Phish. Just great jammy lead tones with a long delay. Let the good times roll.
Blues #3 “Classic American Crunch” cranked Fender Super Reverb tones with low to medium gain. Boarders the line between rock and blues so you can play riffs with this tone as well. Chorus has been added to this preset, but feel free to turn it off or use a different effect, tape echo and mild spring reverb is also optional. A great all around Fendery blues/rock tone!
Blues #4 “Stray Cats” Jazz/Funk/Fusion: this tone goes into more of a modern direction with the younger players in mind. Medium amounts of gain that can be rolled back with the volume knob going through a 1x12. The low mid enhanced tone is rounded out with the compressor and noise gate making the notes come easy. You don’t have to work for your notes with this tone and everything seems to sound smooth and easy. Toss on some chorus, tape echo and light spring reverb and you’re in heaven. Even though there’s more sag here, this tone can handle fast lines and shredding.
Blues #5 “The Screamer” Gas Pedal Blues: this is my take on a balls to wall Blues Saraceno tone as heard on the album “Plaid.” Use your volume knob to tame this one as there’s maximum gain on tap. This tone unleashes everything the THR has to offer and it handles everything you can throw at it, fast legato shredding, tapping, Satrianiesque pinch harmonic squeals and divebombs and so much more. And…the phaser brings the Eddie sound onto the field. You’re going to love this tone, it rips!
